A great principal does more than lead a school. They inspire students, encourage teachers, and help create a place where every child feels welcomed, valued, and supported. At Woodfin Elementary School, Principal Miranda Wheeler brings 25 years of experience in education and a passion for helping students succeed.

From supporting teachers in the classroom to building meaningful relationships with students and families, Ms. Wheeler understands that a successful school is built on teamwork, compassion, and a shared commitment to student success.
“I love Woodfin Elementary because it is more than a school to me. It is a family, a community, and a place where people come together to change the possibilities for children,” she said. “My greatest accomplishment so far is helping this school community believe in what is possible and then turning that belief into meaningful growth for students.”
Being a principal means wearing many hats. Whether celebrating student achievements, helping solve challengesor encouraging staff members, school leaders help create a positive learning environment where students can grow academically and personally.
“I truly couldn’t ask for a better principal as a new teacher,” said second grade teacher Hannah Keever. “Ms. Wheeler is constantly checking in on me and is always the first person to jump in and help.”
Perhaps the most meaningful measure of a principal’s impact comes from the students themselves.
“Ms. Wheeler is nice and funny,” said second grader Charleigh. “She makes my school great!”
Throughout October, Buncombe County Schools proudly celebrates National School Principals Month and the incredible principals who lead our schools with dedication, compassion, and a commitment to helping every student succeed.
