For Heather Buckner, every school day brings a new opportunity to learn alongside the students she serves at Weaverville Primary School. 

Ms. Buckner has dedicated 12 years to Buncombe County Schools as a teacher assistant, helping students learn, grow and discover something new each day. Her passion for education has also inspired her to continue her own journey as a learner. 

Currently, Ms. Buckner is attending Western Carolina University, where she is pursuing a degree in Exceptional Children education. As a proud mother of two boys, she balances family, work, and college while continuing to make a difference in the classroom. 

“One of my favorite parts of my job is watching students make discoveries,” Ms. Buckner said. “Every day is a different adventure, and I often find myself learning something new, too.”

Her dedication to students and willingness to grow have made her a valued member of the Weaverville Primary family. 

“Ms. Buckner is always willing to support the staff and students,” Principal Rachel Austin said. “She is someone who is always willing to learn and try new things. Her students adore her.”

On National Teaching Assistants' Day, Buncombe County Schools is proud to recognize Ms. Buckner and the many teacher assistants who play an important role in our classrooms each day. Their patience, dedication and support help students reach new heights.
