As the new school year begins, T.C. Roberson High School rising senior Carter Starke is already soaring to new heights after earning his FFA Private Pilot’s certificate through the U.S. Air Force Junior ROTC Flight Academy at Purdue University. 

Carter recently completed the intensive eight-week academy, where he was one of just 94 high school students from across the world selected to participate in the highly competitive program. During the academy, students received rigorous flight training, ground instruction, and hands-on aviation experience, culminating in the achievement of earning a private pilot’s certificate. 

The accomplishment marks a significant milestone for Carter, whose passion for aviation began at an early age. As the son of an Air Force veteran, he has long dreamed of one day becoming a pilot in the United States Air Force. 

Reflecting on the experience, Carter said, “This was definitely one of the most rewarding experiences in my life.”

The academy not only challenged students academically and physically but also provided valuable leadership opportunities while preparing them for future careers in aviation and military service. 

With his Private Pilot’s Certificate already in hand before his senior year even begins, Carter is well on his way toward achieving his lifelong goal of serving as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. His dedication, perseverance, and passion for flight serve as an inspiration to his classmates and demonstrate the incredible opportunities available through career and technical education and the Air Force Junior ROTC program.
