This summer, Black Mountain Primary (BMP) students are staying safe and having fun this summer thanks to their annual Safety Around Water class at the Black Mountain YMCA.

The long standing tradition gives second graders the opportunity to learn important skills that can help keep them safe in and around water while also building confidence through hands-on practice.

During the class, students learned how to safely help someone in need using a pool noodle, practiced floating on their backs, and participated in fun pool activities that reinforced essential water safety techniques. Instructors focused on teaching students how to stay calm, make smart decisions, and respond safely in a variety of water situations.

The annual partnership between Black Mountain Primary and the Black Mountain YMCA continues to provide students with valuable life skills that extend far beyond the classroom. By combining education with fun, students left the pool better prepared to enjoy the water safely throughout the summer and beyond.
