Each year, Johnston Elementary celebrates a love of reading in a memorable way, and this year’s event was no exception.

Two third grade students who demonstrated exceptional reading growth throughout the school year earned a special reward - an unforgettable ride to school aboard an Asheville Fire Department fire truck. As the students arrived, their classmates, teachers, staff, and families lined the entrance to cheer them on, creating a hero’s welcome to last a lifetime.

The annual tradition recognizes the hard work, dedication, and perseverance students show in strengthening their reading skills. By turning academic achievement into a community celebration, Johnston Elementary encourages students to set goals and discover the rewards that come from a love of learning.

As the fire truck pulled into the school, cheers erupted from the crowd as the honored readers stepped off to high-fives, applause, and smiles. The exciting arrival served as a reminder that hard work in the classroom deserves to be recognized and celebrated.
