The Buncombe County Schools Board of Education has announced BCS Associate Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Reed will serve as the school system’s interim superintendent beginning Sept. 1, following the retirement of Superintendent Dr. Rob Jackson.

"Dr. Reed brings extensive experience, thoughtful leadership, and a deep commitment to our school system’s mission and vision,” said Rob Elliot, chairman of the Board of Education. “She is exceptionally well prepared to guide the district through this transition, ensuring that our focus remains firmly on student success as the search process for a new superintendent continues."

Dr. Reed has worked in education for nearly 25 years, including the last four years as Associate Superintendent. She has also served the school system as the Director of Elementary and Intermediate Education, principal, assistant principal, and teacher. A BCS “homegrown” educator, she is a graduate of Enka High School.

“BCS has made tremendous progress under Dr. Jackson’s leadership, and I am deeply appreciative of the trust the Board has placed in me during this transition,” Dr. Reed shared. “The school system is blessed with exceptional teammates, abundant student opportunities, and an incredibly supportive community. Together, we will continue to maintain the momentum that has positioned our district for even greater success."

The Board is accepting applications for the new superintendent through July 27, and is providing updates on the process on social media and at buncombeschools.org.
