Three Buncombe County Schools students have received scholarships from the Kiwanis Club of Asheville for making a difference in our community.
Rell Bound and Sam Peshkin, recent graduates of A.C. Reynolds High School, were awarded scholarships for numerous Key Club activities, including volunteer work with MANNA FoodBank, Asheville-Buncombe Community Christian Ministries’ Transformation Village, and the Prom Dress Exchange.
Shannon Gobble of Enka High School also received a scholarship for her community efforts. Last summer, she completed basic training through the North Carolina National Guard through a special program for high school juniors. The ceremony also included special recognition of Key Club faculty advisor Doug Jones for more than two decades of dedication to his students.
“Attending these award ceremonies is quite inspiring, listening to the many accomplishments
and accolades of these future leaders,” said Elaine Grella of the Kiwanis Club of Asheville. “Kiwanis is proud to support their educational goals. We know they will be making a difference in our world, with a foundation of service to those in need.”
The Key Club is the oldest and largest international service project for high school students. School clubs are sponsored by the Kiwanis Club and run by student officers. Congratulations to the scholarship recipients, and thanks to the Kiwanians for their support of Buncombe County Schools.
