A passion for history and months of hard work are taking one Cane Creek Middle School student to the national stage. Eighth grader Alex Ermuache recently earned second place in the state in the website category at the National History Day competition, securing a spot at the national competition in Washington D.C.
Alex will travel to the nation’s capital June 14-18 to compete against some of the top student historians from across the country.
National History Day challenges students to conduct in-depth historical research and present their findings through projects such as documentaries, exhibits, performances, papers, and websites. Alex’s award-winning website impressed judges at the state level and showcased both strong research skills and creativity.
Cane Creek Middle School Social Studies teacher Nicole Osborne said she is incredibly proud of Alex and the dedication he showed throughout the project.
“Alex has demonstrated dedication and hard work throughout this process,” she said. “I am so proud of everything he has accomplished. Earning the opportunity to compete at the national level is an amazing achievement, and I’m excited to see him represent Cane Creek Middle School in Washington, D.C.”
Alex’s accomplishment highlights the hard work and academic excellence happening inside Buncombe County Schools classrooms every day.
