🐐🧶🌱 Kindergarten and Pre-K students got a firsthand look at agriculture during Clyde A. Erwin High School’s (CAEHS) annual Farm Day, a long-running tradition that brings younger learners onto campus for interactive, student-led experiences.

From meeting livestock to planting seeds and exploring textiles, the event highlighted the importance of agriculture while giving high school students leadership opportunities. The day also showcases collaboration across Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and community partners, creating a meaningful, full-circle experience for students of all ages.

“We think it’s really important that students from an early age understand where their food comes from and the role agriculture plays in our community,” said CAEHS horticulture teacher Jessica Holt. “Our high school students work hard to create these stations and lead the experience themselves.”

Livestock raised on campus- including goats, chickens, and pigs- gave younger students a real-world connection to farming. For many, it was their first time seeing these animals up close.

“It’s really good for the younger generation to learn about where their food comes from and how animals live,” said Erwin High senior Kason Brank. “A lot of kids don’t get that exposure anymore.”

The event also brought together multiple CTE programs, including apparel classes and FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America), reinforcing collaboration across disciplines.

“It’s a great way for us to connect as a school and as a community,” said junior Peyton Sparks. “Some of us didn’t grow up around agriculture either, so we’re learning alongside them. It’s kind of a full-circle moment.”
