Avery’s Creek Elementary School celebrated Read Across the Creek Week with a full lineup of engaging activities designed to inspire a love of books in students, staff, and families.

Built around the theme “Everybody Reads,” the week encouraged reading both at school and at home. Students participated in daily “Drop Everything and Read” moments, dressed in cozy pajamas, partnered with younger or older classmates for Book Buddies, and explored stories focused on inclusion and community. The celebration culminated in a schoolwide Masked Reader Assembly, where staff members read aloud in disguise while students guessed their identities, creating excitement and reinforcing the message that reading is for everyone.

“This celebration highlights the joy of reading and encourages our students to grow as lifelong readers- led by our staff, who model a love of reading every day,” said instructional coach Gabrielle Godfrey. “Our goal is to inspire students, families, and staff to embrace the idea that Everybody Reads at the Creek.”

Families were also invited to join the fun by sharing photos of reading at home, helping extend literacy beyond the classroom and into the community.
