The College Board has named North Buncombe High School to this year’s Advanced Placement (AP) School Honor Roll. Schools earn the distinction based on the achievement of the previous year’s graduating class. The criteria include:
College Culture: 40% or more of the graduating class took at least one AP Exam during high school.
College Credit: 25% or more of the graduating class scored a three or higher on at least one AP Exam during high school.
College Optimization: 2% or more of the graduating class took five or more AP Exams during high school, with at least one exam taken in 9th or 10th grade, so that students are spread their AP experience across grades.
“Being named to the AP Honor Roll is a tremendous accomplishment for our school community,” said Kevin Yontz, principal of North Buncombe High School. “It speaks to the commitment our students have to challenging themselves, the passion our teachers bring to the classroom each day, and the strong support from our families. This recognition isn’t just about achievement—it’s about opportunity, and we’re proud to create pathways that prepare every student for success beyond graduation.”
The College Board launched the AP School Honor Roll in 2023 to recognize schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening participation.
