Lately, the halls of T.C. Roberson High School have a resemblance to the Halls of Congress.
Students in Josh Lowe’s AP U.S. Government & Politics class are participating in an immersive Mock Congress simulation. After researching real-world policy issues in committees and drafting their own legislation, students are now taking the floor of Congress-delivering speeches, debating proposals, offering amendments, and navigating formal parliamentary procedure under the leadership of their elected Speaker of the House.
“This dynamic, student-led experience brings lessons to life,” Mr. Lowe shared. “Students are challenged to think critically, collaborate with their peers, and wrestle with complex national issues just as members of Congress do.”
The simulation helps students experience firsthand how ideas develop into laws.
