Students working on laptops and using math to create digital artwork.

At Charles D. Owen High School math isn’t just about numbers on a page - it’s about creativity, critical thinking, and bringing ideas to life.

In Elliot Lunsford’s Math 4 classroom, students discovered that mathematics can be just as expressive as paint on a canvas. Using Desmos, an advanced online graphing calculator, students combine algebraic concepts with technology to design intricate digital works of art.

What begins as equations and inequalities quickly transforms into curves, patterns, and detailed images - all built from mathematical functions.

The project pushes students to think critically, problem-solve creatively, and embrace technology as a tool for innovation. It’s not just about getting the right answer - it’s about seeing math from a new perspective.

In Mr. Lunsford’s room, equations become expressions, graphs become galleries, and math becomes art.
