Third and fourth graders at Glen Arden Elementary recently had the opportunity to learn a fast-growing sport thanks to a special partnership with the Asheville Racquet Club (ARC).

During PE class, students were introduced to the basics of pickleball - from proper paddle grip and the ready position to serving and keeping score. Coaches from ARC worked alongside students, breaking down skills step-by-step and making sure every child had a chance to practice and build confidence.

The gym quickly filled with the pop-pop sound of the pickleballs and the cheers of classmates encouraging one another. For many students, it was their first time ever holding a pickleball paddle. By the end of the class, they were rallying back and forth, learning teamwork, sportsmanship, and the importance of staying active.

Experiences like this gave the students exposure to a new sport and opportunities they may continue outside of school. Thanks to the ARC’s commitment to community engagement, these young learners not only gained new skills but also discovered a sport they can enjoy for years to come.

It was a week full of movement, laughter, and a whole lot of learning - proving that sometimes the best lessons happen when you simply step up to the line and serve.
