From the moment the Buncombe County Schools Foundation’s (BCSF) Bookmobile turns the corner into a neighborhood, park, or daycare parking lot, excitement begins to build. Little faces press against windows, teachers gather their classes, and a familiar smile steps off the bus - Pricilla Lunsford, Bookmobile coordinator, ready to deliver far more than books.

Four days a week, Monday through Thursday, Pricilla travels across Buncombe County bringing stories, early literacy skills, and resources directly to the community’s youngest learners. Her mission is simple but powerful: make sure children have access to books and the tools they need to walk into kindergarten confident and ready to learn.

Pricilla has been part of the Buncombe County Schools (BCS) family for 27 years, with the last eight spent behind the wheel of the Bookmobile. For her, it’s more than a job - it’s a calling.

“I love this Bookmobile with my whole heart,” she said. “It’s my classroom on wheels. I get to teach, love on these kids, and help them discover how magical books can be.”

Inside the Bookmobile, shelves are filled with all kinds of books. But what truly fills the space is laughter, curiosity, and the joy of discovery. Pricilla reads aloud, helps children choose their books, and shares strategies and resources with teachers and caregivers to support literacy beyond the visit.

Former Federal Programs Director Jeanann Yates says Pricilla’s impact is impossible to measure.

“Pricilla’s dedication as the Bookmobile Coordinator has made a lasting and meaningful impact on our students and school community,” she said. “The joy and excitement she brings each time she pulls up to a site is something special to witness. Pricilla doesn’t just deliver books - she delivers opportunity, imagination, and genuine love of reading.”

Her passion, patience, and warmth have made her a familiar and beloved presence throughout the county.

As BCS celebrates Love the Bus Month, we recognize that Pricilla represents the very best of our transportation team - using the power of a bus not just to move students, but to move literacy forward.

Thank you Pricilla and to all our bus drivers and transportation staff who go the extra mile every day to support our students, schools, and community. Your dedication helps drive success - one route, one ride, and one story at a time.
