In honor of National School Counselor Week, we are proud to celebrate Tara Ross-Mowery, a school counselor at Pisgah Elementary School whose kindness, compassion, and steady presence make a lasting difference in the lives of students every day.
For 16 years, Ms. Ross-Mowery has served students as a counselor, meeting them exactly where they are - on their hardest days and on their happiest days. She is a National Board Certified School Counselor, a Crisis Recovery Team Coordinator for Buncombe County Schools, and a member of the Southern Regional Education Board Crisis Recovery Network, bringing both expertise and heart to her work.

What matters most to Ms. Ross-Mowery though, isn’t a title - it’s the students.
“My favorite part of the job is getting to know every single student in the school and being someone they can always count on,” Ms. Ross-Mowery said.

“I like going to see Ms. Mowery,” shared one third grader. “She listens to me and helps me. Her room is always fun.”
Ms. Ross-Mowery says she loves being a consistent support for students - someone they can turn to during tough moments or joyful celebrations alike.
“I honestly love my job,” she said. “I can’t think of anything I’d rather do every day.”
This National School Counselor Week, we thank Ms. Ross-Mowery for the care, comfort, and encouragement she gives so freely - and we extend our deepest gratitude to all school counselors across Buncombe County Schools for their exemplary work and the incredible impact they continue to make on students’ lives.
