Kindergarteners at Avery’s Creek Elementary School turned this week's forecast into the perfect science lesson as they explored how salt affects ice during the melting process.

During the hands-on experiment, students observed pieces of ice and made predictions about what would happen when salt was added. With wide eyes and plenty of excitement, they watched closely as the salt began to melt the ice faster, sparking conversations about temperature, cause and effect, and why roads are salted during snowy conditions.

Teachers guided the young scientists through each step, encouraging them to ask questions, share observations, and connect what they were seeing in the classroom to the weather happening outside.

The lesson brought science to life in an age appropriate, engaging way, proving that even the coldest days can lead to curiosity and big learning moments.
