Clyde A. Erwin Middle School Beta Club students recently traded their own classrooms for storybooks as they headed to West Buncombe Elementary to spend an afternoon reading with first and third graders.

The visit was part of the Beta Club’s mission of service and leadership, giving middle schoolers the chance to make a positive impact on young learners while sharing their love of reading. Paired in small groups, the middle schoolers brought books to life for their West Buncombe friends.

Beta Club members said the visit reminded them of their time at West Buncombe Elementary and how much fun it was to read to younger students. By taking the time to listen, encourage, and connect, these middle schoolers helped make reading exciting.

The partnership between the two schools highlighted what it truly means to serve others - using leadership, kindness, and a love of learning to make a difference, one story at a time
