With boxes stacked high and hearts set on helping others, students at Charles D. Owen High School are turning compassion into action. The school’s Serve to Lead Club recently came together for a powerful cause aimed at supporting children in Haiti, proving that small acts at home can create big change around the world.

Recently the organization held a hygiene drive at school where supplies were collected to make a meaningful difference for families in need. Thanks to the generosity of students, staff, and the community, the club packed and sent 100 boxes filled with essential hygiene items along with toys, crayons, colored pencils, coloring books, and special treats - bringing both care and joy to children overseas.

The students also took their mission beyond the classroom, hosting a bake sale at the Black Mountain Farmers Market, where they raised $1,000. Combined with other fundraisers throughout the school year, the proceeds will help club members participate in a service trip to the Dominican Republic this coming summer, allowing them to continue their commitment to helping others firsthand.

Through compassion, teamwork, and action, Owen High’s Serve to Lead Club is living out its name - showing what it truly means to lead by serving.
