Students dance in a line of colorful orange and white outfits.

🎉🎶 West Buncombe Elementary School students from kindergarten through fourth grade lit up the stage at this year’s Dual Language Hispanic Festival, sharing music and dance that celebrated the beauty and diversity of Latin America.

The school’s auditorium filled with applause, laughter, and rhythm as kids in cute costumes and traditional clothing danced to joyful tunes. Kindergarteners danced to “El Cangrejo,” a Costa Rican song highlighting animals, colors, and Caribbean coastal life. First graders danced to “Dos Oruguitas,” a tender Colombian song about transformation, love, and family. Second graders performed Joropo, a traditional Colombian plains dance featuring symbolic steps, instruments, and rhythm, while third graders danced a cumbia. Fourth graders closed the festival by dancing to Selena’s iconic “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.”

“Every year, students create lasting memories while celebrating and showcasing their heritage,” said Tatiana Araya Vargas, Dual Language Spanish Immersion teacher. “It builds cultural pride while bringing families and neighbors together to enjoy and support the students’ talents.”
