Student Rock Climbing

Students from Owen Middle and High School traded their classrooms for climbing harnesses as they spent the day conquering the towering indoor rock-climbing course at Fiddlehead Farm. Their mission - a Waypoint Adventure packed with communication, confidence, and meaningful connection.

Waypoint Adventure, a non-profit dedicated to adventure-based learning, teams up with schools and community groups to help students build social and emotional skills through hands-on challenges. This adventure was no exception.

From the moment they stepped inside the climbing gym, students were buzzing with a mix of nerves and excitement. They took on everything from the tallest walls to belay challenges, learning not only how to scale rock faces but how to trust themselves and their teammates. Laughter, encouragement, and the occasional triumphant shout echoed through the space as students discovered new strengths and pushed past their comfort zones.

In addition to climbing, the group cycled through team-building activities that stretched their problem-solving abilities and required clear, supportive communication. Whether strategizing their next move on the wall or helping a partner navigate a tricky obstacle, students practiced skills that extend far beyond the climbing course.

By the end of the day, many left feeling taller. Organizers emphasized that the confidence, communication techniques, and collaborative mindset students practiced at Fiddlehead Farm are tools they can carry into their everyday lives, long after the harnesses come off.
