Deputy Justus sits on the ground, surrounded by the ACRMS baseball players and two assistant coaches. Some players are standing, some are seated on a fence behind those standing.

School Resource Officers are known for building relationships with students in the hallways. Deputy Ryan Justus is also connecting with kids on the baselines.

The Reynolds Middle School SRO wanted to strengthen his connection to his students and took on duties this year as the school’s head baseball coach.

“This proactive approach to his job not only enhances student safety but also builds trust and rapport between students and the Sheriff’s office,” said Sgt. Will Fisher of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Division. “Deputy Justus focused on player development, team dynamics, strategic gameplay, and community engagement to help set a solid foundation for student success both on and off the field.”

Deputy Justus and his players recently wrapped up their first season together as the 2025 French Broad Athletic Conference champions.

“I am so proud of my boys and I love them all,” Deputy Justus shared. “They have all shown great leadership through the entire season.”

Congratulations to Coach Justus and the Rocket baseball champs!
