A special guest Zoomed into a faculty meeting at Avery’s Creek Elementary with a big surprise. RHP Properties, which operates housing communities in the area, announced it would donate $10,000 in credit for teachers to use next year on AdoptAClassroom.org. “Our company believes in building communities, and building up communities,” said Matt Bowers, regional manager of RHP Properties. “We’re so proud to have our families, neighbors, and friends at Avery’s Creek to be our adopted school, and help start off next year with everything teachers will need for their classrooms.”
Team members of RHP Properties felt passionate about doing something to help Avery’s Creek after Hurricane Helene. In the days following the storm, before students returned to school, Avery’s Creek staffers held an event in RHP’s Wellington Estates neighborhood. They brought books, games, art supplies, and set up a craft station to help keep the school community connected.
“Buncombe County Schools started this school year with the theme 'together we rise,' which took on added significance after the hurricane,” said Avery’s Creek principal Carrie Lynch. “It is heartwarming that the people at RHP Properties have wrapped their arms around our school community to support our students and teachers in this challenging school year. We are extremely grateful for their generosity.”
A day after the announcement, Mr. Bowers was in the area and had a chance to visit the school, where teachers thanked him in person.
