The hallway of Pisgah Elementary hummed with excitement as word spread: the Enka High School students had arrived. The high school students were excited to connect with younger students through the simple joy of reading.
As the morning went on, the high schoolers found themselves relaxing, drawn in by the kids’ endless curiosity and enthusiasm. They read about silly animals, brave heroes, and magical adventures, and in return, they got questions, hugs and even hand-drawn pictures from grateful little fans.
By the end of the visit, the elementary students were begging their high school buddies to stay just a little longer. The bus rumbled away from Pisgah Elementary, but the impact of the visit stayed with them all. In a few short hours, they had built bridges - between big kids and little ones, between two schools, and between generations - all through the magic of stories.
