The Buncombe County Schools Foundation (BCSF) and First Horizon Bank have partnered to ensure that the BCS Bookmobile continues to roll into another year of fostering literacy and a love of learning among the district’s youngest students.
A check presentation ceremony was held Thursday to mark First Horizon Bank’s sponsorship of the Bookmobile’s maintenance and upkeep for the year. The event brought together BCSF board members, First Horizon employees, and some of the district’s littlest learners from T.C. Roberson’s preschool program. The highlight of the celebration was seeing the students interact with the mobile library, demonstrating firsthand the impact of the initiative.
The BCS Bookmobile operates like a traveling library, visiting preschools and community sites to provide students with access to books and interactive learning experiences. Young learners not only check out books but also engage in class activities such as singing the alphabet and participating in themed lessons. Last week, in celebration of Groundhog Day, students learned all about groundhogs.
By bringing books directly to students, the Bookmobile helps eliminate barriers to literacy access and encourages early childhood learning.
“We recognize the importance of literacy and helping our kids,” said Dan Anderson, a First Horizon Bank employee and BCSF board member. “We know that not all kids have access to books, and the Bookmobile brings books right to them. We are proud to support that.”
The Bookmobile was initially funded and outfitted through a generous donation from Steve Sizemore and his family. Since then, BCSF has taken on the role of sustaining the program, ensuring its continued operation.
“It’s been amazing to see students on the bus getting to learn, thrive, and grow,” Sizemore said.
As the Bookmobile continues its journey across Buncombe County, the partnership between BCSF and First Horizon Bank ensures that more young learners will have access to books and the joy of reading—one stop at a time.
