Student representatives from all BCS high schools gathered today to help shape the future of Buncombe County Schools. The group is called the Student Advisory Council, and it meets throughout the school year with members of the BCS leadership and Student Services teams.
“This is a group I’ve been looking forward to being a part of,” shared Neva Smith, a senior at BCS Virtual Academy. “It’s a great way to be face-to-face, and know that student voices are heard and valued.”
The council discussed a variety of issues, including challenges faced in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, how they feel their schools foster a sense of belonging, and the role of artificial intelligence in education.
“We appreciate you being leaders in your schools, and helping to lead this school system,” said BCS Superintendent Dr. Rob Jackson. “We are excited about the important work you’re accomplishing.”
