At West Buncombe Elementary, students in the Dual Language/Spanish Immersion program recently celebrated Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, with a lively and meaningful cultural event. The gym was filled with colorful decorations, Spanish music, and laughter filling the atmosphere. Students were able to immerse themselves in Hispanic traditions for a fun filled day.
As part of the celebration, the teachers introduced the students to traditional Hispanic games. A popular game was the sack races, where students tried their best to make it across the finish line. For many, this was the first time learning new vocabulary related to the holiday.
Together, these activities helped students connect with a beautiful Hispanic tradition, creating lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for the Spanish language and culture.
