A special event helped prepare Buncombe County Schools students for prom season.
Thanks to organizers and volunteers of the Prom Dress Exchange, hundreds of students were able to shop for free prom dresses, shoes, jewelry and other accessories. The event, held at Asheville's Groce United Methodist Church in March 22 and 23, offered students a chance to find the perfect dress, and even have it altered on the spot, thanks to volunteers equipped with sewing machines.
There were also suit coats, vests, and ties available. Organizers say many students will return their clothing and accessories after their proms, so others can wear them next year.
