The 2025 Military Ball, held on March 28 at the WNC Ag Center, was an unforgettable evening that brought together cadets, school officials, and friends for a night of celebration and remembrance. From the moment guests arrived, the excitement was palpable. Cadets dressed in their formal JROTC uniforms stood tall, greeting attendees as they entered the beautifully decorated venue. The atmosphere was one of pride and anticipation, as the community gathered to honor the spirit of service and dedication that defines the JROTC program.

The evening began with the “bowl of social grace,” a thoughtful tradition that encouraged respect and etiquette among the cadets and their dates. This symbolic gesture set the tone for the night, reminding everyone of the importance of mutual respect, both during the event and in daily life.

Next, the room fell into a solemn silence for the Missing Man Table and Ceremony, a poignant moment of reflection to honor fallen and missing soldiers. The ceremony was a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by those who have served, bridging the past with the present and offering a time of respectful remembrance.

Following these ceremonies, attendees enjoyed a formal dinner, where cadets shared stories and experiences from their time in JROTC. The camaraderie and sense of unity were noticeable, as students from different schools came together to celebrate the values of service, leadership, and respect.

As the night continued, the WNC Ag Center’s ballroom transformed into a vibrant dance floor. Students danced together, the music filling the air as friends and fellow cadets celebrated the bonds they’ve forged through JROTC. The joy of the dance floor reflected the night’s theme of unity and celebration, as individuals from various backgrounds came together to honor their shared commitment to leadership and service.

In addition to the festive celebrations, the ball also served as a meaningful educational experience. Events like the Military Ball offer students a chance to learn and grow, not just as individuals, but as part of a larger community. The lessons of leadership, discipline, and respect taught through JROTC are exemplified in such events, showing cadets how these values translate into real-world success.

As the evening drew to a close, the Clyde A. Erwin High School JROTC expressed their gratitude to all those who helped make the event a success:

  • Dr. Jennifer Reed, BCS Associate Superintendent

  • Dr. Jamie Johnson, BCS Assistant Superintendent

  • BCS Board of Education Members

  • The Buncombe County Schools Foundation

  • School Administrators
