SRO Sgt. Ray with a group of students at North Windy Ridge Intermediate.

In honor of School Resource Officer (SRO) Appreciation Day on February 15th, Buncombe County Schools (BCS) would like to honor an SRO that goes above and beyond for students, staff and the community.

Sergeant Corey Ray has been a longtime officer with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), and for several years he worked in the North Buncombe District as an SRO. His dedication to school safety and improving the lives of students is celebrated at North Windy Ridge Intermediate (NWRI).

“His smile, energy, and kindness are just a few of the ways Sgt. Ray brightens our day,” said Principal Doris Sellers. “He is funny and witty, He loves kids and watching him interact with them is one of my favorite things about Sgt. Ray. He walks the halls and makes a point to say hello to everyone. Our safety is his number one priority.”

To all the SRO’s across BCS, thank you for the work you do and the care you pour into each student.
