Congratulations to our Robotics teams, the Hawkbotz and Windybotz!

On Saturday, November 18th, the teams traveled to Hendersonville to compete in the First Lego League Robotics Regional Competition. There were 25 teams competing all together. First the teams each presented their innovation project with a skit and a robot design presentation to the judges. The Windybotz shared their innovation of an interactive museum on the history of movement. The Hawkbotz presented a dog park built for all dogs, including senior dogs and dogs with special needs. The teams then headed to the robotics table to complete challenges with the robots they programmed. We saw some of our highest scores yet during the robotics competition. The teams each competed three times and their best score was used to determine their rank.

After a busy day of presenting and practicing between rounds, we headed to the awards ceremony. The Windybotz won the Innovation Award for their History of Movement Museum and were selected as one of eight teams moving on to semi-finals! The competition will be held in Charlotte on December 9th.

The Hawkbotz were chosen as the top winners of the day! Their win sends them straight to state competition, which will be held in January at A&T University.

The students also nominated their coaches for the Coach/Mentor award and it was awarded to Ms. Brillisour.

We are so proud of our students. They have worked hard to learn how to program and use that knowledge to program a robot to complete different challenges. They developed an innovation project, for which they wrote a script and built a model to display. They were also interviewed by the judges on all aspects of competition. The students memorized their scripts and were willing to work on preparing for competition any moment they could.

Thank you to our sponsors, Thermo-Fisher and Pratt and Whitney. Thermo-Fisher  engineers even came in and worked with our class. Thanks to the parents who brought their students and spent all day at the competition. Thanks to Mrs. Sellers and Ms. Huffman for attending the competition. We would also like to thank everyone who helped our class prepare by watching their presentations and giving feedback.
