We are so happy to welcome horticulture teacher Lewis Foote back to CHS! Mr. Foote began his career with Buncombe County Schools at CHS in 2010. During that time, he led the school in achieving USDA Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification, which allowed CHS Horticulture and Foods students to grow, harvest, prepare, and serve food from the school garden in the cafeteria. The GAP program directly addresses food insecurity needs of CHS students through providing access to fresh produce and teaching students how to grow and cook with nourishing and healthy foods.
From 2021-2023, Mr. Foote served as Horticulture teacher at Erwin Middle School, and most recently taught for Owen High School’s Agriculture program. In his own words, “I’m just really glad to be back. So thankful to all the people who supported CHS agriculture along the way. Especially grateful to [2023-2024 CHS interim Horticulture teacher] Ernie Kuster for restarting the program, CHS principal Cathy Haughney, CTE director Michele Smith, and our superintendent Dr. Rob Jackson for seeing the importance of the CHS agriculture program and bringing it back to life. It was an important part of this school long before I got here, and I’m lucky to be a part of it. I’m just happy to be home”.
