Beautiful music filled the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts Tuesday afternoon as 126 High School Chorus singers from across #BCS perfected their performance coming up this evening. Students are working with guest clinician Dr. Jami Rhodes, Professor of Voice at East Carolina University, and accompanist Ms. Lynne Babcock. Students will be performing Elaine Hagenberg’s Illuminaire.
During one of the breaks, Dr. Rhodes shared more about her background and how she became a Professor of Voice. The students listened intently as she shared the journey that took her from growing up on a hog farm in North Carolina to Louisiana for her doctorate degree and back to North Carolina as an educator. She continued to hone her craft at every step. She impressed upon the kids that they didn’t have to have their college and career goals figured out now.
“Your job today is to learn a bit more; your job tomorrow will be to learn just a bit more, she said.
“We are absolutely delighted to be here as a community today under the choral direction of Dr. Jami Rhodes,” said Katie Stephens, Owen High School choral director. “Nothing can take the place of making beautiful music with an ensemble. This event will leave a meaningful mark on many hearts.”
Thanks to the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts staff for being amazing hosts and generous community partners in promoting and celebrating the arts.
