Avery’s Creek Elementary first graders were the “apple of the orchard’s eye” during their recent field trip to Stepp’s Hillcrest Orchard! Students spent the day soaking up the fall sunshine and learning about life on the farm - one juicy adventure at a time.

Young learners got to pick their own apples right from the trees, discovering the core of where their favorite snack comes from. After filling their bags with fresh fruit, students climbed aboard a tractor for a hayride around the farm, taking in the beautiful mountain views and learning from local farmers about how apples and other produce grow throughout the seasons.

The excitement didn’t stop there! First graders also a-maze-d themselves as they explored the corn maze and pumpkin patch.

By the end of the day, students left feeling apple-solutely inspired by all they learned, and they had a new found appreciation for the hard work that goes into growing foods they love. Avery’s Creek is picking wonderful ways to connect classroom lessons with hands-on experiences that are fruitful in every sense.
