School Calendar Update - November 2021
Posted on 11/07/2021
NOVEMBER CALENDAR CHANGE:

At the November meeting, the BCS Board of Education approved a calendar change for Monday, November 22 and Tuesday, November 23.  These days are now Local Remote Learning days, and students will participate in remote asynchronous instruction.

Student assignments will be posted prior to 10 am each day. Those assignments can be completed at the student’s own pace. Students will have until December 1, 2021, to complete all assignments. Students will be counted present for the day/class period upon completion of assignments.

Please see this BCS Calendar Update for more details.   Please note that traditional A-B Tech classes will meet as scheduled on these days, so students should plan accordingly.

Buncombe County Schools and A-B Tech are closed for students the remainder of that week, November 24, 25, and 26.

Inclement Weather Plan:
At the November 4 Board of Education meeting, district leadership presented the winter weather strategy for this year. Here are the potential options if inclement weather impacts our region.

• If the event is quite severe, we would likely make the day an annual leave day. Staff will not report to work and there would be no remote instruction.

• If the event is minor, the first day will be an Optional Teacher Workday. Remote learning will be asynchronous with teachers posting assignments by 10 a.m.

• If there are subsequent days also impacted by the storm, days 2, 3, 4, etc. will be synchronous remote learning days. Instruction will begin at 10 a.m.

Each weather event will be unique. The district will communicate clear instructions to families depending on the exact situation. Please ensure that your contact information is correct in PowerSchool. You may also download the BCS App on your smartphone for even faster weather and emergency notifications.
